Traditional café · Hanoi
The other egg-coffee café in the Giảng family, up a staircase opposite Hoàn Kiếm Lake.
Egg coffee is generally credited to Nguyễn Văn Giảng, whose own café is Cà Phê Giảng on Nguyễn Hữu Huân. VietNamNet reported in 2025 that his daughter, Nguyễn Thị Bích, opened this café in 1987, and that since her death in 2012 her husband has run it. That makes it the second café in the family line, a few minutes’ walk from the first.
As with the drink itself, the family history rests on the family’s account as reported by the press.
The café is upstairs at 13 Đinh Tiên Hoàng, on the east side of Hoàn Kiếm Lake. We have not been. Look for the staircase rather than a shopfront.
Egg coffee, which VietNamNet names as the house drink, and phin coffee. The egg coffee recipe explains how the drink is built.
