What this site is, technically

A static website. Pages are pre-built HTML files served from a CDN. There is no application server, no database of users, and no login.

What we collect

No accounts. There is nothing to sign up for, so there is no account data.

No tracking cookies. We do not set cookies to follow you between sites, and we do not run an advertising network.

Local storage. Interactive pages — the phin brew calculator, the map — run entirely in your browser. If they remember a setting, it is stored in your own browser and never sent anywhere.

Server logs. Whoever hosts this site will keep standard access logs — IP address, page requested, timestamp, user agent — as every web server does. These are used to keep the site running and are not combined with anything else.

Analytics. If we add privacy-respecting, cookieless analytics, this page will say so explicitly, along with what it measures and who processes it. It currently does not.

Third parties

Fonts are served from this site, not from Google. Earlier versions of this page said otherwise; that changed when we moved to self-hosted font files. Your browser makes no request to Google when you load a page here.

Affiliate links go to third-party retailers. Once you click one, that retailer’s privacy policy governs what happens next — typically including a cookie identifying that you arrived from here. We do not receive your personal information from them, only aggregate commission reporting.

Hosting and CDN providers process requests to serve the site.

Your choices

Since there is no account and no tracking cookie, there is little to opt out of.

If you do not want to be tracked by an affiliate retailer, do not click the affiliate links — every product on this site is identified by name and can be searched for directly.

Changes

If this site starts collecting anything, this page changes first and says what and why.
