Coffee in Buôn Ma Thuột

Most of the coffee in a Vietnamese supermarket bag is robusta, and most of that comes from the Central Highlands around Buôn Ma Thuột. Đắk Lắk reported 212,106 ha of coffee and 535,672 tonnes of it in the 2023–24 crop year. How the region came to grow it is in the history of Vietnamese coffee, and the province itself is on the Đắk Lắk region page.

The museum. The World Coffee Museum (Bảo tàng Thế giới Cà phê) was built by Trung Nguyên Legend and has been open since 23 November 2018. Its collection of more than 10,000 objects sits in a building based on the Ê Đê longhouse. It is a museum rather than a café, so it is not in the list above. Trung Nguyên’s Coffee Village is in the same city.

The festival. The Buôn Ma Thuột Coffee Festival held its 9th edition in March 2025, and the 10th is planned for March 2027. National Geographic put the city on its 2026 list of food destinations, the only Vietnamese entry.

Drinking robusta well. Robusta is usually drunk strong, through a phin and with condensed milk. Cafés here also brew “fine robusta”, grown and processed to specialty standards, as a filter coffee. Soul offers both on one menu.
