XLIII Coffee, Mỹ An

The home branch of a Vietnamese specialty roaster that roasts on site, in Đà Nẵng.

Why it matters

The company calls this branch its flagship. Its own site describes an open, naturally lit room with a transparent roastery area, so the roasting happens in view of the seating.

That makes it a concrete example of the shift described in specialty coffee in Vietnam: a Vietnamese roaster charging specialty prices in a Vietnamese city. We have not been, so nothing on this page describes the coffee or the room first-hand.

A note on the name

It opened in 2018 as 43 Factory Coffee Roaster (43 is Đà Nẵng’s vehicle registration code) and now trades as XLIII Coffee, the same number in Roman numerals. Both names are still in circulation, including on its own site, so you will see either.

What to expect

Single-origin filter and espresso at specialty prices. A filter coffee here costs several times what a cà phê sữa đá does at a pavement stall.
